A name or location entered into a search tool is sent to the outside company that operates that feature. The provider processes the query and supplies its result. We do not keep a separate log of those search terms on our systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email or other direct message may be retained long enough to respond and maintain the related exchange. It remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by a valid legal obligation.
Data We Gather Automatically
Basic technical details may be recorded when a page loads:

No Criminal-Record Data on File
Bertie County Criminal History does not maintain, assemble, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It publishes directions to official custodians such as the Bertie County Sheriff, Clerk of Superior Court, North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, North Carolina Department of Adult Correction, and North Carolina Sex Offender and Public Protection Registry. Visitor information is not compiled into consumer reports or dossiers about another person, and this site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the search boxes. Their own privacy terms govern information submitted through those tools, including retention and disclosure decisions. Review the applicable provider policy before entering a query because we do not control those practices.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to North Carolina courts, the Bertie County Sheriff, state agencies, legal resources, or search providers. Once a visitor follows an outbound link, the destination's policy applies. Check it before supplying personal information.
Advertising companies may use their own systems to measure activity across websites and select ads. Their tracking does not operate as a Bertie County government record system.

Your Data Rights
Rights may differ based on the law that applies to a visitor and the type of data involved. North Carolina's Public Records Law, Chapter 132, governs access to records kept by government agencies; it does not turn this private website's visitor data into a Bertie County public record. Article 27A separately limits misuse of state registry information. Subject to applicable law, a visitor may:

- Ask whether personal information is held and request access when required
