1. What This Website Is

This is a private reference site, independent of every government office. It does not store official criminal records, file documents, obtain a record for a visitor, or perform an official background check.

Its role is to identify the custodians of Bertie County records, including the Sheriff, Clerk of Superior Court, North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, North Carolina Department of Adult Correction, and North Carolina Sex Offender and Public Protection Registry, while also providing access to outside research tools.

2. Rules for Using This Site

You agree that you will not:

• Interfere with the service or prevent someone else from using it
• Deploy bots, scrapers, or similar automated access tools against the pages
• Attempt to enter a system or account without permission
• Use site information to threaten, stalk, intimidate, or harass a person
• Use content for a hiring, housing, lending, or insurance decision
• Violate a federal, North Carolina, or local law through the service

3. No Harassment, Stalking, or Discrimination

No one may use information found here or through a linked service to intimidate, stalk, threaten, harass, or unlawfully discriminate against another person. North Carolina's Article 27A places special limits on misuse of Sex Offender and Public Protection Registry data and provides criminal consequences for prohibited conduct. Registry access exists for safety awareness, never vigilantism or retaliation.

4. We Are Not a Consumer Reporting Agency

We are not a consumer reporting agency under the FCRA and do not create consumer reports, credit reports, or official background checks. Neither the website nor its advertising partners provides an FCRA screening service. Information from these pages or a linked tool must not be used to:

• Decide whether to hire or fire someone
• Screen potential renters or housing applicants
• Judge creditworthiness or set insurance premiums
• Determine who qualifies for licenses, permits, or government programs
• Do anything else that falls under FCRA rules

A person who requires an FCRA-regulated report must use a qualified FCRA-compliant provider and follow the law applicable to that purpose. The SBI Right to Review described in Bertie resources is a subject-only personal record review, not a general public screening service.

5. No Legal Advice

Site content is not legal advice. General descriptions of Bertie County records cannot determine how a charge, conviction, warrant, or expunction statute applies to an individual matter. Seek advice from a licensed North Carolina attorney.

6. No Warranties

Everything on this site is provided "as is." We do not guarantee that:

• An outside search result will be complete or correctly matched
• Pages will contain no error, defect, or security weakness
• The service will remain available without interruption
• Every fact will be complete, current, or accurate at a particular moment

Charges may be filed, changed, dismissed, restricted, or expunged, so a record can change after publication. No page should be treated as an official statement from the Bertie Clerk, Sheriff, SBI, or another government custodian.

7. Third-Party Services and Links

Unless otherwise stated, the text, graphics, logos, and code belong to Bertie County Criminal History or its content partners. They may not be copied, altered, distributed, or used to make a derivative work without prior written permission.

9. Limits on Our Liability

To the greatest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for damage arising from use of this site, including reliance on content obtained here or through an outside service.

10. Indemnification

You agree to defend and hold us harmless from claims, demands, or proceedings caused by your use of the website or a breach of these terms, including related legal costs.

11. Governing Law

North Carolina law governs these terms. Any dispute connected with use of the website must be brought in a court located in North Carolina. Government record access remains subject to the North Carolina Public Records Law and other laws that apply to the originating agency.

12. Changes to These Terms

These terms may be revised. A replacement takes effect when it is posted on this page.

13. Cutting Off Access

We may suspend or end access at any time, for any reason, without advance notice.

14. Severability

If one provision is found invalid or unenforceable, the remaining terms continue in effect. The affected provision will be limited only as much as necessary.
